The USAID Mission Director in the Dominican Republic, Alexandria Panehal, made remarks at a recent community event promoted to announce a new partnership between Entrena’s USAID funded youth development project, Alerta Joven, and worldwide education organization, Junior Achievement.
On February 19, 2015, several community stakeholders joined students and teachers for the event in support of the partnership. Local authorities, trustees, entrepreneurs, volunteers and sponsoring companies were present at a local school where the event took place.
The partnership was created to expand programming and services for at-risk youth in Los Alcarrizos, a municipality of the Santo Domingo Province. This new public-private partnership also involves the Mayor of Los Alcarrizos, the chief authority of the new service area where the partnership will benefit more than 9,000 students.
Through this expansion, more youth will participate in a labor insertion (workforce development) program where they will receive help to develop business models and gain capital from microfinance lending. The program will be implemented in 20 schools in Los Alcarrizos.
