The Dominican Republic´s First Lady, Cándida Montilla de Medina, signed an agreement for HIV/Aids prevention with Alerta Joven. The agreement will provide 3,400 test kits for an HIV/Aids prevention campaign led by Alerta Joven targeting at risk youth in Haina-Herrera. The agreement was supported by the non-profit organization Sur Futuro, the private consulting company Entrena SRL, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
In addition to access to HIV/Aids test kits, the targeted at risk youth population will also have access to 30 different technical and professional development courses, mental health professionals, and internship opportunities. The purpose of these efforts is to provide at risk youth, age 11 to 24, in Haina-Herrera with professional and personal development opportunities in hopes of decreasing violence and criminal activity.
